After about two months, I have one adult beetle and about 20-25 aliens. They’ve been separated from the worms. I give them all a fresh apple core every time I cut apples for my kids, as well as a few orange cubes (Fluker’s) to up their nutritional value/health. Thank you for the great information and VERY detailed photos!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11942288725176766718noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7880057689894637723.post-4987945548053337302017-09-16T15:58:39.429-07:002017-09-16T15:58:39.429-07:00Hi Anonymous,

This isn't a pet Gecko, just a cute little Gecko that hangs out and feeds on insects in my garage. He was looking skinny so I purchased some mealworms and now after reading your page I hope to be able to harvest my own mealworms!

Thank you for the info!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7880057689894637723.post-18412346526042323912013-09-12T19:59:38.456-07:002013-09-12T19:59:38.456-07:00Hi Anonymous,

As long as you have a lid or mesh on your container, you will not have beetles all over the place.

You can remove the worms to give to the birds any time that they are big enough to use, but you need to make sure that you always allow a certain number of worms to remain alive in your colony so that they can become the next generation of beetles.

Good luck!Mytutorlist.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01948352130654592758noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7880057689894637723.post-33933046623876925922013-09-12T13:28:39.902-07:002013-09-12T13:28:39.902-07:00I am looking to feed the wild birds come winter an...I am looking to feed the wild birds come winter and heard about having a mealworm colony but I am worried about the beetles climbing out. my information says to keep them at room temperature but I can't have beetles running all over. at what point would be best to remove the worms to give the birds Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7880057689894637723.post-79442868400800533762012-11-17T14:42:17.812-08:002012-11-17T14:42:17.812-08:00Hi Monique,

I find that when I let the carrot dry up, beetles start to die and the mealworms start to look less plump. They look kind of shrunken! I wish I could leave out the water source too like you!Mytutorlist.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01948352130654592758noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7880057689894637723.post-70723522088759049452012-11-09T04:13:26.418-08:002012-11-09T04:13:26.418-08:00You don't need to add a "water source&quo...You don't need to add a "water source", it just causes your oatmeal to become mouldy and damp, which attract the mites as well and make their eggs hatch. I have a very sufficient colony that supplies my 4 bearded dragons and 3 leopard geckos with about 10-15 worms each per day.
