Easter Bunny Hunt Idea

My sweetheart is quite the creative genius and he stashed these little fellas all around my room for me for Easter. They are goofy-looking rabbit drawings with speech bubbles that say, "Can you find my other friends?" Each rabbit has a package of Cadbury chocolate bunnies attached at the base so that they can stand up.
The first rabbit that I found was on top of my shelf tucked behind Unloved. I've pulled him out to the front so that you can see him :)
The second one was stashed here on another shelf trying to blend in with my collection of various knick knacks.
The third was under my bed. He was in the shadows so I didn't see him until I looked carefully.
The fourth was in this tube of white paper behind my door. I would *never* have thought to look here so I needed help to find this guy. My sweetie actually rolled him up a little so that he could be dropped down into the tube. "Rabbits like holes," he gave me as a hint, and I really didn't get it until he closed the door so I could spy the tube.

What great fun! Thanks, hunny!

My Army of Easter Treat Bag Chicks

I made some Easter treat bags for my co-workers and I wanted to show you what they look like, since I'm rather fond of them. Look at these happy, fat chicks! Aren't they wonderful? In case you'd like to make some too, here's what you'll need:

Easter Chick treat bags (comes in pack of 20 with twist ties)
Plastic raffia in your choice of cheery colours
Foil-wrapped chocolate eggs
Caramel Hershey Kisses
Hershey Eggies or Cadbury Mini Eggs

Instructions:
  1. Put handful of plastic raffia into Easter Chick treat bags.
  2. Add 5-6 chocolate treats.
  3. Stuff bags full with plastic raffia.
  4. Tie with twist tie (mine came with my treat bags)
The treat bags came in a pack of 20, but I needed almost 30 of them. I didn't have time to run out and buy more treat bags, so I improvised the remainder with supplies I had available. To make these treat bags you will need:

ACEO card sleeves (polypropylene 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches)
Yellow note cube sheets
Fancy edging scissors
Pencil crayons
Black ink pen
Chocolate treats
Plastic raffia

Instructions:
  1. Open card sleeve and add 2 foil eggs, 2 hershey kisses, and one cadbury mini egg.
  2. Roll up a pinch of plastic raffia, and add to card sleeve.
  3. Fold note cube sheet into half and cut along the fold.
  4. Fold half sheet again lengthwise.
  5. Use fancy edging scissor to cut bottom of the paper to make it pretty.
  6. Line up paper to match the size of the card sleeve, and cut off excess length.
  7. Put the folded paper over the card sleeve so that it covers the opening of the card sleeve.
  8. Staple the paper onto the card sleeve (one staple in the bottom middle).
  9. Write Happy Easter and who the treat bag is from.
  10. Decorate with pencil crayons.
Enjoy!

We Have New Baby Platy Fish!

Remember this lovely lady? Well, I almost forgot to tell you, but she gave birth to NINE little babies on Tuesday. The newbies are not short and fat like the previous bunch. They are long and skinny! We'll have to something about the skinny part... They seem to be doing well, swimming alongside their older, now-orangy siblings (the previous batch of googly-eyed fish friends). I was relieved that the older babies didn't mind the new bunch at all.

This time around, we didn't put the Mummy fish into the birthing compartment until the day of. She gave birth to the nine babies and my brother claims that she ate two of them, but no one else present seems to agree. She also mysteriously laid two eggs. She's not supposed to lay eggs, so we're not sure why there are two fish eggs in the birthing room. They are clear bubbles with faintly yellow tinted fluid inside and something whitish. Perhaps they are unfertilized eggs or undeveloped babies? I have no idea. It is a mystery to us all.

So there's the happy, Eastery news of the day. I left Eastery treats on my co-workers desks this morning since it's the last day before our long weekend, but I didn't label most of them. The side effect is that they think the treats are from my company, lol. Oops. Maybe they'll find out later.

I hope you have a happy Easter long-weekend.

Happy Easter Weekend

I had some time this weekend to work on some new brooches. I made two Easter-themed brooches, Blue Bunny brooch and Easter Bunny brooch, and two others, Sweet Rose brooch and Caribbean Star brooch.

My favourite one of the bunch is Sweet Rose brooch. You can't really tell from the pictures, but the leaves are made from a dark, creamy brown felt with rose pink stitching. I thought it was fine time for my mother to have one of my brooches so I gave Sweet Rose brooch to her. She says she'll wear it for Easter Sunday tomorrow. *beams*

And, as promised, here are some pictures of my bird brooches from my "bird phase". There's Goodnight Bluebird brooch, Toy Bird brooch, and - a treat for V - the Crabby Dinner brooch. He's a big fan of crab dinners and we decided that he could secretly indicate he wanted a crab dinner by wearing the brooch. If I spot the brooch, he gets the dinner.

Happy Easter Treats

I put together a little plate of Easter goodness today. Five green tea sticky rice balls with red bean filling on red paper cups arranged on a bed of bright plastic raffia. I added some little chicks, some foil eggs, and a little sign for extra Easter cheer.

My family was quite delighted by it and I expect that the yummy treats will soon be all but a memory :)

Happy Easter!

Easter Surprise Eggs Craft Tutorial

I know, I know, Easter is still far away, but here's a quick and easy little project I've started on in preparation. I felt quite guilty for not doing anything for my friends for Valentine's day so I'm making up for it by starting early on something for Easter.

Materials
1. Plastic close-able eggs
2. Chocolate eggs
3. Colourful plastic raffia
4. Colourful cardstock
5. Fancy edging scissors

Instructions
1. Use the fancy edging scissors to cut strips of paper about 1 cm wide and 2 inches long. Write "Happy Easter" on each piece.
2. Pull out some plastic raffia and roll it in the palm of both your hands to form a small ball.
3. Open a plastic egg and put the balled up raffia into the deeper side of the plastic egg.
4. Add 2 chocolate eggs and one strip of "Happy Easter" message.
5. Close the plastic egg and you are done!
6. Repeat this process with as many eggs as you need.
